KNUD E. HANSEN A/S has a wealth of stability expertise and experience across a wide range of ship types. This extends to design and conversion, regulatory compliance consultancy as well as practical operation and training. This expertise is enhanced by the diverse backgrounds of our staff which include master mariners, flag/class surveyors and consultant ship designers. Our participation in research projects and at the IMO supporting flag states ensures that we are up to date with the latest developments and requirements. The following are some of the main services that we provide:
We are able to use our experience to design a wide range of vessels, according to the whole range of regulatory requirements, while optimising deadweight, operability and safety.
We often carry out stability checks as a part of a pre-purchase or charter survey. This can begin with an examination of the available stability documentation or investigation of the ship’s loading computer, looking out for discrepancies as well as suitability for the intended operation. Sometimes this escalates into full verification where we create our own computer model of the vessel and analyse the intact and damage stability performance.
We are regularly called out to perform lightweight surveys and inclining experiments, some of which have to be done in challenging conditions or time scales. We also have experience in troubleshooting operational problems ranging from loading computer discrepancies to loading condition optimisation as well as stability enhancements.
We have held a variety of different training courses; including fundamentals of stability, damage stability/emergency response training as well as familiarisation with probabilistic damage stability regulations. Courses are tailor-made for the specific requirements of the client and can cover:
