The Danish shipyard, Hvide Sande Skibs- & Baadbyggeri, has delivered a new 50-metre ferry to Swedish domestic ferry company, Ven-Trafiken. Danish Naval Architecture firm, KNUD E. HANSEN, was responsible for the Basic Design including the class drawings, the general design of the hull, stability and outfitting, and the machinery systems arrangement.

The vessel has been named Uraniborg, and will operate between Landskrona on the Swedish mainland and the island of Hven in Øresund.

As part of managing the Basic Design, KNUD E. HANSEN was tasked to undertake:

  • Class drawings
  • General design of the hull
  • Stability and outfitting
  • Machinery systems arrangement
  • Other documentation

Vessel description

Uraniborg is a double-end passenger ferry designed to carry up to 394 passengers and up to 14 cars, or seven cars plus two trailers. The main deck is arranged for easy access for pedestrians and bicycles.

The vessel has two engine rooms, one in each end. These each contain a high speed diesel engine that drives twin, high-efficiency azimuth thrusters with contra-rotating, double-screw, fixed pitch propellers. As a result Uraniborg has excellent manoeuvrability for entering and leaving port.
