The vessel was delivered from Hyundai Heavy Industries, Ulsan South Korea, in 1990. It was converted from a 2300 TEU container vessel into a livestock carrier with approximately 22,000 sqm of livestock capacity and it can handle shipments of 75,000 sheep or 22,000 cattle.

On June 19, 2014, the livestock carrier Awassi Express embarked her first livestock for a voyage from Perth to Indonesia, which was completed successfully on July 9.

This marked the successful conclusion to the complex conversion project in Singapore. Awassi Express is now the ‘gold-standard’ when it comes to the transportation of livestock from Australia and the region, providing the most sophisticated welfare, feeding and ventilation systems afloat today.

The vessel will be chartered for shipments to the Middle East.

Tender and Contract Design of the conversion made by KNUD E. HANSEN.
