The vessel was designed to serve as a Multi Purpose Offshore Support Vessel in the Atlantic Ocean around the Faroe Islands.

The client was Fiskimalastyrid, Faroe Islands. The vessel was designed to have a good seakeeping capability and very high manoeuvrability. M/V Brimil was built by Kleven Verft A/S, Ulsteinsvik, Norway, and was delivered in February 2001.
