The new ferry to come on line for the Fogo and Change Islands run, will be named the MV Veteran.

The ferry, which is scheduled to arrive this fall, was officially named in a ceremony on Fogo Island this morning. The vessel’s observation deck will be named after Change Islands native son, A.R. Scammell, the man who penned the Newfoundland favourite “The Squid Jiggin’ Ground”.

The passenger lounges will be named after nurse Margaret Cobb and former captains, Fred Chaffey and Patrick Miller, who operated the ferry for many years.

The vessel was designed in cooperation with Fleetway Inc. for the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador. It is intended for the route from Newfoundland to Fogo Island and Change Islands, and is specially designed for operations in conditions of thick ice.

Scope of work by KNUD E. HANSEN

  • Concept Design
  • Tender Design
  • Basic Design

The vessel has been delivered by DAMEN.
